Partner Robert S. Huth, Jr. has been selected by the City of Detroit to serve as the city’s lone appointee to review applications submitted by businesses looking to obtain one of Detroit’s newly permitted adult use marijuana licenses. Kirk, Huth, Lange & Badalamenti, PLC has a team of seven professionals reviewing the Detroit Applications.

According the City of Detroit’s Office of Contracting & Permitting, Mr. Huth received unanimous recommendation among a number of firms and individuals submitting proposals to lead “the review, evaluation, analysis, and scoring of applications for adult use marijuana limited licenses.” After numerous interviews with City of Detroit Officials the City Council voted 8-1 to award the contract to the Kirk Huth firm. Huth served in a similar capacity for the City of Pontiac.

Kirk Huth provides legal counsel to municipalities related to the rapidly growing and evolving marijuana industry in Michigan. Following the legalization of medical and recreational uses of marijuana in Michigan, community leaders have been grappling with how to operate within the new regulatory framework, and Mr. Huth has been at the forefront of helping them to understand and overcome various legal challenges.

“I appreciate the vote of confidence from the Mayor Duggan and the Detroit City Council. All worked hard to draft an Ordinance that gives Detroiters an opportunity to participate in the cannabis industry. I will ensure their goal is met,” said Huth.
